Light-a-Fire Movement Part 2

In the year 1980, a group belonging to the oligarchy embarked on a terrorist campaign to attack the Marcos dictatorship. The group was known as the “Light-a-Fire Movement.”

It set off a number of bombs in Metro Manila, one of which injured the singer Nonoy Zuniga, leading to the loss of a leg. The group was led by Steve Psinakis, who married the only daughter of ABS-CBN and Meralco magnate Eugenio Lopez, Sr.

This campaign of terror didn’t last long. Its leaders were arrested in a raid, tried and sentenced to die by electric chair in 1984. Luckily for them, Marcos fell in the 1986 EDSA Revolution, and the sentence was not carried out.

Fast forward to 2020.

The idea of the “Light-a-Fire Movement” is being revived, but with the component of violence removed from the equation, for the moment. Hindi natin alam baka may binabalak sila na mag resort to violence upang makamit ang kanilang objective.

This movement is being waged through the propaganda front. And without a doubt, ABS-CBN is in the forefront of this effort. Somehow, the Lopez name is once again emerging as the family behind this attempt to undermine the government with fake news and lead to the downfall of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

ABS-CBN is relentless in pursuing this objective. At every turn, it pounces of issues that could be used against President Duterte. The latest issue is the memorandum issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) asking its employees to refrain from posting negative social media comments against the government. ABS-CBN is portraying the Duterte administration as clamping down on the freedom of expression of civil servants.

That has been the objective of the “Light-a-Fire Movement.” To instigate the people to rise against the government. Now it is using scripted dramas like the fake ambush of Kim Chiu’s van, the dispersal of Kadamay protesters in Quezon City and this issue about the DENR memorandum.

Clearly, the people in the executive suites of ABS-CBN are getting desperate. They will stop at nothing to accomplish their objective of weakening government and force President Duterte to step down. Propaganda is a very powerful weapon. ABS-CBN will exert every effort to win this war for the hearts and minds of the people.

As things stand, however, the oligarchs, the yellows and the left are fighting a losing war. The Filipino people is standing rock solid behind President Duterte. No amount of fake news through the air waves will erode the people’s trust and confidence in the President.
